About the event

Does your child dream of romping through the woods, learning wild edible plants, building forts, and creating intricate nature art projects? Then your child will thrive at Ways of the Wild!

This weekend drop-off class is for students ages 7-11 years old, guided and facilitated by an expert nature-based educator. We gather throughout the year to experience the seasons, build friendships, and explore our favorite thing: nature! Each class features ample free play in nature, nature skills, and creative expression. This hands-on, immersive nature program encourages older children to become active stewards of the living world and helps them build a strong network of friends along the way. Your child can expect the following rhythm each class:

10 am  Arrivals & welcome

10:15 am  Walk to home base

                    Gathering circle

                    Free nature play

11:15  Intentional group activity, game, or nature craft

12:30  Lunch & walk back to pavilion

1 pm  Closing circle

Since this is a drop-off program, we ask that children attending are comfortable in group settings without a caregiver. Each child should come with a lunch (and snacks if needed) and a full water bottle. This class is 100% outdoors (cancelled in the case of unsafe or extreme weather), so children should be dressed to explore in any weather.

After registering, you will provide a simple program guide including an emergency form to fill out for your child.

We are looking for one parent volunteer to attend this program with their child. In exchange, your child can attend for free. If you are interested, please email our Director, Emily Woodmansee, at director@bluestonevillage.org. We'll lightly interview interested families for the best fit.

Bluestone Village

Highland Lake, NY

Bluestone Village plays and learns on the unceded land of our Host Nation peoples, the Munsee Lenape and Mohican. We offer deep condolences to the past, present, and future Indigenous peoples who experienced harm at the hands of colonizers and for the systemic racism they still experience today. We promise to do our best as allies and support our Host Nation and all Indigenous peoples with our actions. We recognize this statement is just the first step and commit ourselves to continue to grow and work towards reparations and healing.
